Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by the mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. When she was a little girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessional disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word association. Ford began acting during her teens and became part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one month, she decided that it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford later applied for a spot at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor would go on to have recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford was not able to finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991and appeared on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The stage was her main focus, and joined the company's season 2000-2001. Tate received recognition as a stand-up comedian and has been added to her portfolio in 1996.
